The leading team of the IEPG
Prof. Dr. med. Hermes Andreas Kick
Managing Director
Hermes Andreas Kick is Professor of Psychiatry at Universitaet Heidelberg. He is the Director of the Institute for Medical Ethics, Psychotherapy and Health Culture (IEPG) in Mannheim. He has published many scientific contributions on the manifold problems of depression therapy and the rehabilitation of psychoses. In his examination of current social areas of crisis he has turned towards ethical questions and questions about the formation of values on the basis of an anthropological approach. In contrast to frequent discussions about the unavoidable marketing orientation in health care, he has taken a stance against the overhasty profit orientation in medical practice and clinics as a universal remedy for the necessary therapy of the ailing health care system. He has warned about the mistreatment of patients as mere clients, and pointed out the negative consequences. Those who swim against the tide are not always applauded, but they do reach the sources. From the sources we reach the origins of our anthropological and humane presuppositions. This orientation is necessary in order to be prepared for future crises. We are working in order to avoid threatening imbalances and derailments by careful and ethically inspired action.
Hermes Andreas Kick is a member of many scientific institutions, including the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. He is not only cooperating with scientists, but also entertaining relations with various artists and leading figures in politics and business. Ethical and aesthetical questions, artistic recognition and responsible realization as practical syntheses belong to the central challenges of our modern society. Together with the renowned composer Violeta Dinescu he has realized a series of musical productions in the Mannheimer Ethic Symposium regularly taking place in the Mannheim Castle.
